Jill Scott (n e Joyce Scott) was born to her mother on 4th April in 1972. The family of Jill Scott consisted of her mother and grandmother. She is an only-child. Scott attended her school, the Philadelphia High School for Girls. After graduating, she attended Temple University. While working two jobs part-time, she took classes in secondary teaching at Temple University. She hoped she would become an English high school teacher. However, she was not able to achieve the dream after three years of studying and working as a teaching assistant, she left college. After starting her career singing at poetry events and eventually, she teamed up with Amir Quest Thompson of The Roots. You Got Me is the outcome of their collaboration. Through the Roots show, she revealed her artist status. Following that, she started collaborating with musicians like Eric Benet Will Smith or Common. During the Canada tour for The Broadway musical Rent She gained invaluable performance experience. She was the first signed artist to label Hidden Beach Recordings label.
